Being a Mother During the Holidays

So finally the mass of holidays are over and I just stop and think about how thankful I am that they are.... over. What many people that don't have small children and for those that have grown children who have forgotten, having small children during the holidays is tough work.

Non-Existent Baby Proof Family Houses

I'm not asking for a huge helping hand in asking you to baby proof your house when I come over, but don't expect me to sit down and have a pleasant experience where we talk into the wee hours about life. I've got a full time job of being a mother, which entails running around after my 1 year old as he tries his darndest to destroy everything you hold dear in your house.

How You Can Help

If you really true care about me, just section off a small area of your house that can be designated for my son, a 5x5 area will do just fine. Enough for him to think that he's free to run around his little area but confined as well. Or better yet, when you see my huffing and puffing trying to keep him from killing himself on the stairs, pulling china off of the countertops, ask me if I'd like something to drink or better yet... offer to watch my little tike for just 15 minutes so I can actually sit down and converse with adults for a few moments.

Bad Experiences of Christmases Past

Ok I'm sure I'm going to throw some people under the bus for this, but why not~ Last Christmas my son was sick with an ear infection (which I was unaware of at the time) so I spent the whole day holding him trying to coax him to settle down ~ which he never did. During this time, my entire family sat down to eat dinner in another room and left me alone with a crying and screaming baby all by myself. It gets better.... And during this time, no one came over to ask me if I'd like to take a break or.... ... EAT! When my husband finally came over to ask if I was alright, all of the food was cleared from the table and put into the fridge. Not ONE other person even noticed that I hadn't eaten... Just sad.... So I had to pull out everything from the fridge to actually sit down to eat, by myself. Granted my sister and husband sat with me, but as you may well have guessed, just not the same....

This one is for Mom

How about instead of telling me 50 times that I need to wipe my son's nose because it's running, YOU just wipe it! I know it's running, believe me.... if I could attach a bucket through his nose I would, but for now his nose is going to run until it gets a little obscene and I MUST wipe it. Otherwise, my life long job for the day will just be to constantly monitor his nose to make sure there's NOTHING coming out. Seriously.... And last ~ thanks for having us over for Christmas :)
